      @simevidas @zachleat Think of the advantage of a meta element—it allows you to share a doc offline or off a server without relying on that to give encoding info. But if it’s not likely a doc is ever shared this way, or if you don’t want to handle that case, a header is easier and more maintainable.

    @simevidas @zachleat That “true offline” thinking seems foreign now, but HTML was used differently in the past (say, instructional CDs with HTML documentation). Add the encoding mess from old times (no defined UTF-8 default) and you get to our situation, where we do things we don’t need to do 😬
